Great news for anyone following Belén’s progress on eating solids.  I wouldn’t say that we turned the corner today, but we can now see the corner from about two blocks away and we have our blinker on in preparation for it.

Yesterday, she started opening her mouth for the puffs we tried to feed her.  Today she went a whole lot further and ate nearly her entire bowl of avocado mixed with breastmilk mixed with rice cereal.  Mind you, her entire bowl is probably less than two Tablespoons, but it is excellent progress.  For dinner, she took it even one step further and was opening her mouth for heaping spoonfuls of banana mixed with breastmilk mixed with rice cereal as if she actually LIKED it!  I was really proud of her and happy to be giving her something she liked rather than trying to trick her into eating food she clearly loathed.

The best advice that I read online is what I ultimately credit for the progress.  Somewhere on the babycenter website, a woman commented that she sat her baby down in the highchair, three times a day and attempted to spoon feed him, even though he didn’t want the food.  After enough time, he got used to the fact and started accepting the food.

Unfortunately Andy missed the progress since he was working on getting our backyard sprinklers in during the day and seems to have come down with something flu-esque this evening.  Poor guy.  I hope Belén and I don’t get it.

Andy being sick reminds me of this video I saw last week (and already shared with a couple people via email.)

Okay, so this totally doesn’t depict Andy when he is sick and probably more reflects how it is when I am sick.  After having dysentery in Shanghai with his entire family including me in the US, he doesn’t even flinch at the flu.

By the way, I am still slowing migrating the old blog’s entries over to this blog.  Until then, the old blog is still still up http://web.me.com/hoobing

I’m a blog freak, so yes I read every post. I just wanted to add that I think that breast milk and avocado sounds delicious. haha.

Doesn’t it though? The breastmilk sweetens it up a bit. :)
