Probably my favorite cultural image of all time is the well-known Rosie the Riveter.

I also like the less well-known, Righteous Babe Records logo, see any resemblance?
This comes more from my quasi-feminist days, but I still love these icons and the strong women they portray.
This site’s Blogroll represents a host of strong, amazing women, but today I want to highlight two of them who I don’t know, yet I am in awe of, Jessica Watson and Abby Sunderland.

Jessica Watson

Abby Sunderland
Both women (actually girls), at 16-years of age, are attempting to be the youngest person to sail, solo, non-stop, unassisted around the world. Jessica is mid-route and just rounded Cape Horn today. Abby is due to set out on her journey this weekend.
Andy and I both follow their blogs religiously and talk about what they are doing and what it must be like to be out there in the middle of the ocean by yourself, sailing. Jessica’s daily accounts are fascinating and I am sure Abby’s will be as well.
We wish them both the best of luck and hope to be out there doing something exciting like that ourselves some day…well, maybe not quite that exciting.
