When my *short* hair ends up in a ponytail at work more than three days in one week, it means it is time for a haircut. I could also tell by my roots that a highlight was in order as well. I squeezed in a phone call to Euphoria salon last Wednesday and said I would like to schedule an appointment for whichever stylist could fit me in around 1pm on Saturday. I prefer to spend the maximum amount of time with Belén on the weekends so I chose the closet (good) salon with an appointment overlapping her afternoon nap time.
A little before the appointment, I went searching online for haircuts. No matter what hair style I choose, it seems like my hair almost always looks exactly the same. Before I left the house, I showed Andy the classic Meg Ryan “The Sally Shag” and he gave his two cents that I should stay blond and try the shag.

When I arrived at the salon, I met my stylist, Tara and tried to bring up the Sally Shag on my iPhone. I told Tara that I really need to change it up a bit and she started giving me ideas. She said with my long face, I need something to break it up mid-way, that is why long hair never looks good on me. She seemed to know what she was talking about, so I asked her for recommendations on haircuts. She went and found the 2010 must have hairstyle book and we thumbed through it.

After learning that bangs were one of the “must haves” for this year, I decided to give them a try, even though it has been a VERY long time since I had true bangs.

I found this haircut and gave her the green light to do it.

This was taken the moment before she chopped them off.
Much cutting and thinning later, I had my version of the cut. Tara showed me how to style it, especially the bangs since they are a foreign concept to me. I forgot most of what she taught me immediately after she showed me so now I am on my own to make these puppies look presentable.
I feel like I received a really good cut and highlight but I am still not sure if I chose the right style. When I walked in the door, Andy said, “whoa, that is not the style you said you were going to get.” I asked him if he liked it and he honestly told me that he did not. While I appreciate his honesty, I have to admit that it did bother me that he didn’t like my hair. I gave him grief about it all weekend so now he says he thinks he should lie to me in the future. I don’t want that either, but I do hope the haircut grows on him. I am still getting used to it myself and the jury is still out. For some reason, in my mind, I am reminded of Amanda Peet every time I think of myself with bangs. When I went searching in google images I cannot even find many pictures of her with bangs so I do not know how that image continues to enter my mind. I bet if I looked like Amanda Peet with bangs, Andy would like them.
The great thing about bangs that I have already learned is that it is fairly easy to sweep them into your normal hair and be more-or-less bangless once again, if so inclined.

Well, I never did think Amanda Peet was all that, but I *do* know exactly what you’re thinking of with her and bangs. I instantly got an image in my head too, so we must be thinking of the same movie or…?
I think they look cute, and I love how the color turned out! I have major envy for anyone with bangs, so know that you’re rocking them for the both of us!!!

I had the 90′s bangs school and it took me years to finally grow them out. I think Then I tried the side swept bangs a couple years ago. I pinned them back 90% of the time so I realized that I still can’t go back to bangs. I’m scarred for life and I’ll be one of those old people stuck in my time as far as hair style is concerned.
The look you chose is super popular right now and quite a few of my friends have that look as well. I think it looks cute and I LOVE that Meg Ryan do up there too. A lot.

I really liked your new look when we saw you on Sunday night. I thought it was very flattering. I know what you mean about it being difficult when Andy doesn’t like it though as you Dad is very quick to point out when he doesn’t like a new style I’ve tried (a short hair cut a few years ago). I’m excited to see the different ways you wear it, as you do a great job with your hair and it takes a while to get used to a new do! I think it is really cute!
