The market was a classy meat, cheese, fish, gourmet market…think Pikes Place meets Whole Foods. I looked for the stall with the most customers which was a tiny cooked fish market along the back wall closest to the waterfront. In typical fashion, I ordered the crab cakes and I have to say I believe they are the best I have ever tasted…TO DIE FOR!

After a good 15 stressful kilometers on the Express Way, I saw the light of tall skyscrapers in the distance and knew I must be arriving downtown. We (GPS lady and me) took the correct exit and then somehow managed to get pretty lost trying to get on the street the hotel is on. At one point, the GPS lady told me to take a left turn on a street that does not allow left turns between certain hours and this took me in a direction in which I eventually became way off course trying to stay out of the way of the other competent drivers on the street, electric trolley cars and the stream of pedestrians.

So in the off chance that you are a politician or know a politician who is interested in one person’s opinion on health care or any legislation for that matter, my feedback to you is to DO YOUR JOB. You are A LEADER in the free world…COLLABORATE with your fellow Congressmen and Congresswomen.

After twelve hours of photography instruction and 38 pages of notes, I decided to put what I had learned into practice. It was a perfectly overcast evening and Andy actually started the session by snapping a few shots of Belén and I playing outside with the cat.

One of my New Years resolutions is to learn how to take better photographs so when my friend Jaimee asked if I wanted to participate in the Rocky Mountain School of Photography weekend workshop, I agreed even though I could not yet cope with the fact I would willingly be giving up two non-work days I would normally spend withBelén and Andy to sit in a dimly lit hotel conference room. Reasonably priced photography training from a renowned photography school in my home town does not come along very often so I decided it was too good to pass up.

I haven’t had a rash for as long as I can remember. I have not been able to figure out why this rash arrived and have considered everything from changing lotions awhile ago to the amoxicillin to the artificial sweetener in my gum to the new washer/dryer to a perceived panic about leaving my family (okay, the baby) next week. The location of the rash (arms, legs and stomach) sort of points to the lotion but I guess you never know. From the knowledgeable people I have talked to about this say it could be a hundred different things that my skin simply decided to react to.

Belén is used to formula and has it most days while at daycare. Her breastfeeding is relegated to mornings and nights and even at that, I notice she is starting to drink less and less. My instinct is to pump more to capture the extra milk she is not drinking…but then I look at her standing on her own two feet, smiling at me with a toothy grin and think, “This kid might be done breastfeeding.”

I think it is nearly time for me to make some changes and at a minimum figure out how to enjoy my meals rather than shoveling them in my mouth while doing something else. Life is too short…

It just dawned on me today that because of the previously mentioned playing hard, most of the time, she no longer smells like a baby, but more like a little kid. You know that sweaty, sweet, yummy little kid smell…that is our baby. She still smells like a baby when she first gets out of the tub, which is more often lately as well.
