Our Chinese friends have been asking how we will celebrate Belén’s first birthday. Apparently it is the custom in China to put the following items in front of the child and the item they choose will determine their profession.
1, Dictionary: scientists, or knowledgeable people.
2, Books, pens: calligraphers, or writers.
3, Ruler: lawyers, or judges.
4, Calculator: merchants or businessmen.
5, Money: rich people.
6, Credit card: banker or financier.
7, Seal: official position or politician.
8, Paintings, color pen: painters and artists.
9, Cloth: fashion designers.
10, Badminton, soccer: sports-related career.
11, Flute, violin, keyboard, CD: musicians.
12, Fork, knife, pan: chefs, restaurant operators.
13, Small shoes: travelers, explorers.
14, Moisturizer, lipstick: beauty.
15, Cell phones, floppy disks, mouse: IT industry, high technology, communications.
16 Globe: geographer.
17, Swabs, gauze: doctors, nurses.
18, Toy car: drivers.
19, Blocks: construction designer.
One thing I can guarantee is if we put all of these things on an elevated surface, she would knock all of them on the floor in 30 seconds flat. She might pick up a few of them and study them a bit giving us a glimpse into our daughter’s future.
Based on her current favorites, the iPhone and the remote control, she is either going to be Steve Jobs or a couch potato.
