Mexico 2003: Jellyfish

One of our favorite stories from when we lived in Mexico in 2003 was on a trip to Puerto Vallarta with our friends Paul and Lindsay.  We decided to go on a sailboat ride where the only other passengers were a couple probably in their 50s.  We hadn’t seen our friends for awhile, so we were busy talking about all sorts of things and more or less ignoring the other couple.

At one point in the conversation, Andy brought up the fact that there was a posting for a stewardess on our company’s Jobs site and then we talked for awhile about how many large companies wastefully spend so much money on corporate jets for CEOs and top executives.

Shortly after that conversation ended we actually started talking with the other couple.  What do you suppose their professions were?  Corporate pilot and Corporate stewardess.  Can you say awkward?

Later, we were swimming next to the sailboat in the vast blue ocean when Paul exclaimed, “Ow…jellyfish.”  We all franticly swam back into the boat.  As we stood on the boat looking out at the water, there was a single loan jellyfish about the size of a pint glass all by itself next to the boat.  It felt as though the only jellyfish in the entire ocean had someone found an unlucky Paul.

Luckily our bad luck did not extend any further during the rest of the trip and we enjoyed the rest of the trip.
