Continuing with a look back to 2003, our year living in Guadalajara, Mexico.
It is challenging making friends in a new country, especially with locals. On both of our expat assignments in China and Mexico, I sought to make friends from the country we were living in, but it is hard to find people who accept you for who you are and vice versa. Also, people already have their friends and you are the new kid on the playground who doesn’t know anyone.
Toasting the New Year
For this reason and so many others, I was very fortunate to have my friend Ana while we were living in Guadalajara. We actually met in Boise before we moved to Mexico as she is a co-worker of mine who had traveled to Boise for work.
Throughout 2003, we did so many fun things together including trips to the beach, wine nights, salsa dancing classes, shopping, spin classes and so so much more. And she helped us out when we got ourselves into pickles and was even there on the scariest night of the big earthquake after we had just arrived in our new city.
As I look back at the video clips in my mind from that year, so many frames have Ana’s face in them I couldn’t possibly recap that year without mentioning her.
