Beachcomber

The first two days on the beach Belén was not too sure of the ocean and especially the sand.  She warmed up to the ocean quickly as the waves brought such exciting surprises in the form of waves at regular intervals…but it took a bit more time to warm up to the sand.

If she is anything like her mom, she has sensitive feet and even without that trait, I imagine the first time you walk on sand, it is a very different sensation.  She was able to avoid the sand the first few days by wearing her pink Crocs when walking and by staying within the confines of the palm mats we strategically placed around the shady region of our palapa for general playing.  She stayed on the mats until about the third day when she realized sand wasn’t so bad afterall.

The best part of sand….you never know what you are going to find when you go digging.  This quickly made Andy and me wish she had not discovered the wonders of sand since we had to be on our toes every second we were on the beach.  If we were not, after a few minutes of beachcombing, Belén would inevitably get the following look on her face.

We quickly learned to recognize it as the “I have something in my mouth I would like you to ignore” look.

Andy or I would say “Ahhhhhhhhh” to coax her into opening her mouth and then immediately try and fish out whatever, seashell, cigarette butt, rock or piece of palm she had managed to hide away before devouring.

And then the whole cycle would repeat itself.

Your pics of Andy and Belén tell the story perfectly… and I love the expression on both of their faces. That last pic is priceless! Very cute! The pic of B’ on the beach with the waves in the background is precious. What a great trip you all had!
