As all of the national news stations are reporting, Abby Sunderland is alive and well.
A little additional information from CNN:
Sunderland’s parents, Laurence and Marianne, wrote on her blog: “We have just heard from the Australian Search and Rescue. The plane arrived on the scene moments ago. Wild Eyes is upright but her rigging is down. The weather conditions are abating. Radio communication was made and Abby reports that she is fine!
“We don’t know much else right now. The French fishing vessel that was diverted to her location will be there in a little over 24 hours. Where they will take her or how long it will take we don’t know.”
Sunderland’s vessel is adrift in the middle of the Indian Ocean some 2,000 miles east of Madagascar, 2,000 miles west of Australia and 500 miles north of the French Antarctic Islands. In other words, the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!
In case you are wondering (I was), “her rigging is down” means that the mast (the big pole that holds up the sail) is no longer upright. Must have been a big storm. You can see her boat, “Wild Eyes” here without it’s mast.

I cannot wait to read her account it!
Mamamones can subside for now. We are so thankful she is okay!

Wow, I admire her courage and tenacity, but as a mother, I cannot even imagine having you or Anna in the middle of nowhere in such horrible weather conditions that it actually broke the mast of your boat. I admit, I would be a nervous wreck!
