At my doctor’s visit last week, they did the first trimester pre-screening tests which included an ultrasound. Not that I have had a whole lot of them in my life, but I have to say it was by far one of the coolest because our wee baby loves to move and show off when on camera. Wee babe was twisting and turning, giving us all sorts of cool shots as you can see below.
I think wee baby’s face looks kind of like Belén’s.
One of the big things they are looking for in these tests is Downs Syndrome. They measure some distance on the neck and do blood work to screen for it and many other potential problems. Once the technician had seen our baby she did mention that nowadays the presence of a nasal bone may be an even better indication that the baby does not have Downs because baby’s with Downs either do not have one or it is very small. So we were happy to see a pronounced nose.
With the movement we have seen with this baby in both ultrasounds, I am guessing once I am far enough along to feel the movement, it might be a bumpy ride from my ribs and internal organs perspective. I really am looking forward to the movement though as I like the little nudges and reminders of the baby…it makes it all seem so much more real.
