Our dear friend Jan lost her battle with breast cancer three years ago this past weekend. Our old running group got together to remember her and go for a walk in the Boise foothills.
This photo is amazing to me because it shows a very different group than when we started running together over ten years ago. For starters, the kid with the dog was the size of Eloise and I used to give his mom a hard time for feeding her baby “rotten” (really just overly ripe) bananas.
Jan was an amazing woman and was always there to listen and offer advice. She was a domestic goddess and a very organized working mom who worked as a lactation nurse. One of my favorite Jan stories was one time when we were running she was talking about her long day the day before and how she was so exhausted and wanted to do nothing more than just put her feet up and relax. She continued by saying, “but, we were out of orange juice so I had to go the grocery store.” I must have given her a look like, “Are you crazy woman? You were exhausted and went to the grocery store for orange juice?!?!” I don’t know why of all of the memories, this story is most memorable…probably because to me, it defined Jan.
We miss you Jan! If there is a heaven, we know you are up there cooking, gardening, mothering, smiling and, of course, running.

It makes me feel so good that you guys still remember my mom. Such a funny orange juice story. That is definitely my mom. Something I would never do. She is definitely smiling from heaven about being referred to as a domestic goddess:)
