In less than a week, Patrik and Claudia have already experienced many of the big things America and more specifically the west have to offer. When they picked up their suburban, Patrik commented that if they parked that in front of their apartment in Germany, Green Peace would likely be protesting by the following day.
Later that day, Andy took them to shoot a shotgun. It was Claudia’s first time. I hear from both Patrik and Claudia that Andy did a great job explaining how to shoot and the video of Claudia experiencing the kick back for the first time is priceless.
The big American food trends continued with some of Idaho’s finest.
Andy made his amazing (large) steak one night.
The following night we had a BBQ at my parents where we served bacon cheeseburgers, beans, fruit salad and an angel food cake drizzled in chocolate.
Patrik tried a Buffalo burger in Sun Valley.
And finally the drive-thru Starbucks option is a huge hit. Patrik mentioned it was challenging reading the menu and ordering a lactose-free drink in English, driving a new, automatic (he is used to manual) SUV through a small drive thru but the reward is a soy latte in hand, or more specifically cup holder, on the other side.
And we are now serving s’mores with the “extra-large” perfect-for-s’mores-sized marshmallows.
A couple of other differences between the US and Germany that we have uncovered. They do not have a microwave or dryer and I am in awe of how they get through their day.
Of course it is possible to acquire both items in Europe, they are just not standard in every home like I presume they are in the US.
We are all having a great time!
